Challenges and Farewells

Tariffs are yet another challenge for construction
companies to contend with. The immediate
impact of the tariffs has been the increase
in costs for essential construction materials.
Steel and aluminum, for example, have
already seen price hikes. The increased costs
are felt across the industry, making it more
expensive to undertake construction projects.
This unpredictability will make it difficult for
construction companies to accurately forecast
costs and plan budgets. For an industry that
relies heavily on estimates, this uncertainty
can lead to higher bids, impacting the overall
cost-effectiveness of construction projects.
Fortunately, there are several strategies that
construction companies can implement to
alleviate the impact of increased costs due
to tariffs: for example, purchasing in bulk or
exploring alternative suppliers. Contractors may
also focus on inventory management to decrease
waste and improve efficiency.
At the end of the day, contractors will still build,
as the construction industry is known for its
resilience and will adapt and continue to thrive.
And speaking of end of days, for the last 20
years, I have had the distinct honor and privilege
to serve as President of WC&C. It has been the
culmination of a long, rewarding and successful
journey. But the time has now come for me
to move onto the next chapter. And so, it is
with mixed emotions that I say goodbye and
announce my departure as president effective
June 1. It has truly been a remarkable journey
filled with challenges, growth and, most
importantly, countless cherished memories.
In closing, I want to express my heartfelt
appreciation to all of the WC&C members and
colleagues I have worked with over the past 20
years. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside
some of the most talented and inspiring
individuals, each contributing to my personal and
professional growth. I will carry these memories
with me as I embark on my next adventure.
Thank you all for this wonderful journey!
