WC&C is a consortium of business leaders. Many of you founded your companies. Others continue a family tradition. Some came on board along the way and are building the firm you lead. The common thread that binds each of us together is a deep-seated love of the construction industry and the wonderful feeling of accomplishment good leadership brings.
But running a business, particularly one of skilled craftsmen and growing it, requires constant growing of our personal skills. That’s why AWCI’s annual Industry Executives’ Conference and Committee Meetings is such an important tool. Aside from the obvious benefit gained from networking with peers from all across the country, this event offers a great opportunity for company owners and their executives to focus on trends impacting their business. Informative speakers, networking and committee meetings are brought together to further your knowledge and provide the tools required to maximize your ability to meet today’s construction industry challenges. This is especially necessary in New York City where the demands are many and often unique.
This year’s education sessions at the Industry Executives’ Conference , “Retaining the Right People,” “Building Your Talent Pool for Future Growth” and “Recession-Proofing Your Company,” are musts for all senior level industry professionals.
There is still a scarcity of key personnel here in New York’s construction industry. Field supervisors, superintendents, project managers, estimators, middle managers and senior executives are in short supply even as our skilled workers are. We all have our own style of leadership but if we are to lead our companies effectively, I suggest we need to be proficient in each of the conferences’ education topics.
Fall is right around the corner. The AWCI annual Industry Executives’ Conference and Committee Meetings will be held on October 3 through 6 in Tucson, Arizona. The location, the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains, features a Jack Nicklaus–designed signature golf course. Be sure to make your reservations soon.
I hope to see you there.
